YPF MEET UP: EXPERT HIGHLIGHTS PRINCIPLES FOR BALANCING WORK AND PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP


In a vibrant gathering of young professionals in Magodo-Olowora District, the anticipation was palpable as they welcomed a remarkable leader to their Meet-up forum recently. 


As Executive Director of Melos Consult and renowned HR thought leader, Dr. Tope-Philip Aikhuemelo, took center stage to impart vital principles on balancing work and personal relationships.



His engaging presentation left attendees inspired and equipped with actionable insights to foster a more harmonious workplace.


THE FOUNDATION: SELF-AWARENESS


Dr. Aikhuemelo emphasized that self-awareness is the cornerstone of meaningful relationships at work. “How aware are you of who you are?” he posed to the audience.


This question resonated deeply, especially for many Christians navigating the complexities of modern workplaces. 

He cautioned against compromising one’s faith for external validation, urging attendees to embrace their identity and values authentically.


THE POWER OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

Delving into emotional intelligence, Dr. Aikhuemelo explained its profound impact on interpersonal relationships. 

He advocated for understanding not only oneself, but also how one is perceived by others.


 “The problem with many is that they walk around with their noses in the air,” he noted, highlighting the importance of empathy and awareness of one’s environment. 

 This understanding, he argued, is key to breaking down barriers in communication and collaboration.



CULTIVATING INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Speaking further, Dr. Aikhuemelo shared practical advice for developing strong interpersonal relationships. He urged professionals to express themselves thoughtfully and to prioritize love and kindness in their interactions. 



“No human being wants to be unloved,” he reminded the audience, while also advising caution in forming close relationships with the opposite gender in the workplace.


COMMITMENT TO GROWTH

Another crucial principle Dr. Aikhuemelo shared was- the importance of self-improvement and professional development.


 “Display that you can do the next higher job,” he advised, emphasizing the need to demonstrate capability and readiness for greater responsibilities.


 He encouraged attendees to be a catalyst for their boss’s success, underlining that integrity and reliability are essential components of professional credibility.


PRACTICING MUTUAL RESPECT


Mutual respect emerged as a vital principle in Dr. Aikhuemelo's address. He stressed the importance of valuing diverse opinions and understanding the dynamics between employees and employers. 




“Manage your boss for success by understanding who he is,” he suggested, advocating for open communication and collaboration.


ESTABLISHING BOUNDARIES

Addressing the delicate balance between personal and professional relationships, he advised attendees to build strong boundaries.


 “Relationships are for mutual growth,” he stated, urging young professionals to be mindful of workplace ethics and the potential pitfalls of blending personal and professional lives.




FAMILY MATTERS


Dr. Aikhuemelo also emphasized the importance of including the family in one’s professional life.

 He cautioned against the common mistake of neglecting family responsibilities, asserting that a supportive family is vital for personal and professional success. 


“One day, your job will leave you, or you may leave your job, but your family will always be your foundation,” he reminded the audience.
