LEADERSHIP SUMMIT: V.C AND RELEVANT STAKEHOLDERS, IGNITE PASSION FOR GLOBAL ILLUMINATION IN YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

SURGE 2024: IGNITING THE LIGHT OF LEADERSHIP IN YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

In a world plagued by moral decay, societal unrest and spiritual darkness, it is disheartening to witness the struggles of how youths navigate various contemporary vices.

The urgent need for guidance and illumination, prompted the Young Professional's Forum of Agege Chapter, an initiative of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, to host a transformative leadership summit titled-"Surge 2024: Awakening God's Heirs for Global Illumination."

Illuminating The Path Forward

Held on September 14, 2024, at the Philjul Event Gallery in Agege Lagos, the summit assembled an array of distinguished leaders from diverse sectors.

The keynote speaker, former Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University and current Vice-Chancellor of Anchor University, Mr. Samuel Oye Bandele, passionately addressed the audience on the theme: “Surge: A Clarion Call to God's Heirs for Global Illumination.”

Bandele emphasized the importance of transparency and integrity, urging young professionals to shine brightly in a world that often glorifies darkness. “It is when you are sinless that they can't trace a kobo fraud to you, that's when you can say you're shining the light.

“Let the world shake you and see no single iniquity in your life, for me as a V.C, they told lies against me, made  Governor's to set up  panel to search my record, they searched and checked but couldn't find a single fraud against me.” he stated.

His call to action was clear, that God's heirs must become beacon of truth and understanding, illuminating the world around them.

The Power of Illumination

In his address, Mr. Bandele further articulated a compelling vision of global illumination, stating that it involves the relentless pursuit of truth, knowledge, and empathy to combat ignorance and injustice.

He highlighted the pressing need to confront issues such as corruption, criminality, and societal decay, challenging attendees to rise as committed and charged individuals in a world rife with challenges.

"Surge is a wake up call to believers who aren't inspired and it's also a call against ignorance, because the bane of Christianity is ignorance, hence, this call is against ignorance, indifference and indiscipline.” he added.

His address culminated in a powerful framework-The Siege, The Surge, and The Sage.

The Siege:

  S: Suffering for sin

  I: Iniquity in Ignorance

  E: Enthronement of Evil

  G: Grieve by Groaning

  E: Endangerment by Enemies

The Surge:

  S: Shine as the Sun

  U: Upgrade to the Uppermost

  R: Radiate as the Rainbow

  G: Glow over the Globe

  E: Electrify all the Earth

The Sage:

 S: Sensible and Sensitive

A: Appointed and Anointed

G: Great and Glorious

E: Enlightened and Excellent

These constructs encapsulates the essence of the summit's mission, urging participants to combat iniquity, and mediocrity while becoming shining examples of integrity and excellence.

Insights From Industry Leaders

Following the keynote address, the event transitioned to a virtual session with the Divisional Head of Business Technology, Pastor Tobe Nnadozi, who enlightened the young professionals on the topic- "Rallying Virtuous Grandees for Global Socio-economic Revolution."

He emphasized the transformative potential of young professionals in technology, education, and healthcare, asserting that they possess the capacity to reshape the society.

“I focus on the young people because with young people, you can travel the world, with young people, you could make an impact, with young people, we can transform technology, education, and medical science,” he said.

Tobe also reminded attendees to realign their thoughts and actions with God's intent for dominion, referencing Genesis 1:26.

“God's Purpose and original plan for man is to dominate and subdue, because if you don't, the unrighteous who get dominion through relevant training will eventually become gatekeepers, frustrating the fact that- when the righteous prosper, the city rejoices.

But, for the righteous to prosper, he needs to be future grandess for global socio-economic revolution"

He also stressed that- to be relevant on the global stage, one must start from where they are and meet certain standards.

“You must meet up with certain standards-e.g., as a teacher, how do you teach? Do you teach with chalk and can't make presentations in this digital era?”

Furthermore, Tobe highlighted qualities expected of global grandees which includes- integrity, impeccability, involvement, quality and meticulous evaluation without emotion, passion, education and motivation.

“You need to be elaborate and excited, believing in what you want to offer with passion, because passion will take you to where gift alone will not take you. Be passionate about what you do and be industrious.

“Don't be afraid of praying for something so big, that only God can do, because when you start thinking big, resources will match your thinking.

“Learn to influence people positively, make it a principle to network, because your network is the nature of your net worth.” He advised.

The Political Session: Leadership Insights

The summit continued with a compelling session led by Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, who demystified the topic- “Raising Visionary Governors for Gracious Nation Building.”

He began by analyzing biblical examples of leadership, distinguishing between leadership and governance.

“Leadership is different from governance. A leader can stand alone, inspire, empower, get closer to the people and show the way, but governance is wider than leadership,” he explained.

Dr. Ayo emphasized that true governance is critical in families, businesses, and communities. He urged attendees to prioritize self-development and cultivate a global perspective.

“If you want to be a better governor, you must first govern yourself,” he stated, highlighting the need for personal development, discipline and humility.

“Governance is inevitable in families and private sectors. Governance is a bigger scope than Leadership, and Governor's are usually governed by rules. But many aretimes, rules don't transform life's. He reiterated.

Mentorship Versus god-fatherism

The summit also featured a critical dialogue on mentorship led by Pastor Daniel Bamigbayan, who clarified the difference between mentorship and god-fatherism.

He urged attendees to seek authentic relationships that foster mutual growth, rather than those driven by selfish interests.

“Mentorship is basically standing on the shoulders of others whom you know and have gone ahead of you, so you want to leverage their experience or knowledge to advance faster,” he explained.

Speaking further, “In god-fatherism, you are simply compelled to obey, else you might lose a privilege, and this plays out in the office or political space.

In sum, there is a sense of selfishness involved in godfatherism, but in mentorship, there is mutual value, and courtesy is involved, he reiterated.

The panelists session had Professor Atinuke Poopola, who inspired women professionals to transcend biases and limitations, encouraging them to

look beyond immediate challenges and limiting factors of segregation in the workplace..

“God created women efficiently and effectively,” she said, urging them to claim their rightful place in society.

“Look beyond challenges and weaknesses, and don't rely on someone's approval to tell you how far you can go in life.” She explained.

Grooming for Greatness

Pastor Ayo Oluwagunna shared Insightful and impactful tips during the professional sessions with a call to- “Groom Godly Graduates to Become Global Goal-getters.”

He underscored the importance of a growth mindset, encouraging young professionals to prepare for challenges and embrace their dreams, despite setbacks.

“You can never be global in your operations, if you're addicted to being local in your orientation. Your Position can never exceed your perception,” he stated.

Pastor Ayo challenged the audience to understand that when pursuing dreams, they must be ready for the trials that come with them.

“When you carry a dream and vision, expect confrontation. Sometimes, the validation of the confrontation against your dreams is the actual validation of that vision,” he said.

He also emphasized the importance of grooming through hardship, highlighting that true growth comes from overcoming challenges.

His session included inspiring nuggets such as-

“You need to understand the concept of being groomed as graduates, because there is the tendency for some one to be a graduate and yet stagnate.

“If God has given you a vision, it's worth holding onto, the vision is yet for an appointed time and though it tarries, wait for it.

“Keep grooming yourself like Jephthah who was sent out as a bastard, but he was grooming his muscles, preparing

for battle, when there was no war, until the elders came to him, bowing to his terms and conditions.”

He also charged the audience not to give up on their dreams explaining thus-

“When you are set on a mission as a goal-getter, there are forces around you that want to either negate your going, negotiate how far your going should be or terminate your flow.

“But the future belongs to the people who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

Be a goal getter, because your space is still vacant, go get it!” He concluded.

 A Spiritual Awakening

The summit’s final session, led by Pastor Olusola Olumide, addressed the need for “Recruiting Valiant Generals for Global End Time Revival.”

He emphasized that true leaders are forged in the crucible of challenges, calling for a generation willing to rise against adversity and serve humanity with courage and compassion.

“Generals are never made in the office but are made in the warfront,” he stated, challenging the audience to enlist in God's service amidst a world filled with distractions.

Pastor Olumide outlined the criteria for being enlisted as a valiant leader, emphasizing the need for conversion, consecration, courage, character, competence, temperance, compassion, concern, capacity, and communion with Divinity. He cautioned against the disqualifying traits of laziness and indulgence.

Inspiring Call to Action

As the remarkable summit came to a close, it's imperative to reflect on the Insightful words of prayer, offered by the keynote speaker, Mr. Bandele- “Oh Lord, illumine me to be an illuminant heir for Global illumination and to continue illuminating.

This prayer is not just a plea; it's a clarion call to action. It urges all to seek divine illumination, to be vessels of light in a world yearning for hope and guidance while noting that- together, we can light the path for ourselves and generations to come.
